Please join us at the Weller House Inn
WHI - Tango Weekend: February 26 - 28, 2010
Detlef Engel & Melina Sedo
Friday
7 - 8 pm - CIRCULAR MOVEMENT for COMMUNICATION
For quality of movement, these basic principles enhance communication in the embrace and relaxation of organic movements which help us communicate more clearly.
(Also good for dancers familiar with this concept who want to brush up on the techniques. Highly recommended as preparation for our other workshops during the weekend.)
8 - 10 pm - PRACTICA with Refreshments
Saturday
10:30 – noon - TANGO– TECHNIQUE & BODYWORK
Working with relaxation and tension, finding axis, examining the walk, working on dissociation and relaxed pivoting. All the techniques which allow you to stay relaxed while dancing. (No partner required; for both leaders and followers.)
12:30 - 2 pm - ELEGANT VARIATIONS of the CAMINAR
In this class, we‘ll develop elegant and sophisticated variations of the Caminar that play with the crossed system through subtle communication. We‘ll make these even more challenging by inserting decorations, which make each single movement so charming.
2:30 - 4 pm - MILONGA LISA
You don’t need complex steps to dance a good Milonga - a unique dynamic and your connection to the music is what makes this dance so special! We’ll explore rhythmical variations of the Milonga-walk, and combine elements for small and playful movements.
7:30 - 10:30pm - MILONGA -- DJ Detlef; 9 pm Melina & Detlef performance
Sunday
10:30am – noon - Rhythmic and Fluid Variations of OCHOS
After some basic work to Ochos-technique, we‘ll combine the elements of rhythmic or fluid movements appropriate to different kinds of Tango music.
12:30 - 2 pm - GOODBYE GRAPEVINE: TURNING Without Memorized Patterns
Combining the basic elements (steps & pivots) to turns without memorizing patterns. For us,
the molinete is only ONE way to turn. Have fun exploring them. (We recommend taking the Ochos-class before this one, as we introduce our idea of communicating pivots there.)
2:30 - 4 pm - Vals – The Music
Explore the rhythmical variations in Vals and integrate them in variations of the walk and several known movements. This may sound simple, but is it not: there are certain rhythmical variations which are forgotten most of the time and dancing them requires proficiency to really lead and follow in order to “time“ your movements
All levels welcome to attend all classes
Beginners are cordially invited to observe more advanced segments
Drop-in rate: $20 per class, $15 for Saturday Milonga
Weekend pass: 7 classes, practica & milonga $120; early bird $100 one week ahead

Argentine Tango - Level 1
with Barbara and Lee
Argentine tango is an improvisational dance based on the four building blocks of walking, turning, stopping and embellishments. The dance is like a puzzle that gets put together differently each time. The surprises possible within the dance are what make the dance so addicting. It really does take two to tango, because the dance isn't just about the man leading and the woman following. Both partners have important things to contribute - like all good conversations.
In this class, you will learn:
- Basic Construction
- Open Construction
- Starts and Pauses
- El Ocho
- Gancho Cerrado
- Doble Ocho
- Caminos
- The ebrance and posture
Come join the conversation!
Starts Wednesday, February 17, 7:00 pm
at Veterans Memorial Building
5 weeks - only $40 prepaid, pre-registration required.
Partner is encouraged but not required
